PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

October 19, 2004

Thank you for visiting our website. It may not be as fancy as other websites, but it contains pictures and a lot of information about our sanctuary, our policies, and our viewpoints.

My vision for our sanctuary stems from my feral feeder experience

Many of the people who visit this website feed feral cat colonies. When I first started in this “business,” I, too, was a “feral feeder.”

With all the responsibilities I now have running our sanctuary, I don’t have time to personally feed them anymore. I’ve trapped “my guys” and brought them to the sanctuary.

I tell you this so you understand that my vision for our sanctuary stems from my experience as a feral feeder who successfully practiced Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) when (1) all of the cats were caught, and (2) the cats could be returned to a safe environment.

I established the sanctuary because many of the cats couldn’t be returned to a safe environment (because of Animal Control, nasty neighbors, or bulldozers). I had no other practical choice. Nearby cat sanctuaries didn’t exist.

Cat sanctuaries are a necessary resource that need your support

Recently, the president of a very large “cat rescue” organization that advocates TNR said to me that “money spent on building cat sanctuaries is a waste of resources.” What she meant was that the money would be better spent on neutering and spaying cats, not saving their lives.

On the contrary, money spent on building cat sanctuaries is not a waste of resources, it is money well spent on a necessary resource that provides a safe place for unwanted cats to live out their lives.

If you are a feral feeder, practice TNR for your colonies whenever possible, but support the building of cat sanctuaries so that, if necessary, you’ll have a safe place to relocate them. Give money and allocate time to help us raise more money – so that we can operate and expand our services.

If you don’t – and we vanish – where will you relocate your colonies when Animal Control, nasty neighbors, or bulldozers show up?
