WISH LIST
January 1, 2008
With over 1,200 cats now at the sanctuary, we use
• 84 18-pound bags of Purina Cat Chow, each week
• 183 25-pound bags of unscented clay cat litter, each week
and a lot of bleach, soap, paper towels, disposable latex gloves, and garbage bags.
Once a month each cat gets a dose of Advantage (to kill fleas) and a shot of Ivermectine (to kill worms, ear-mites and mange). Our infirmary has a variety of vaccines, antibiotics, ointments, and other medicines to treat our cats.
And, we use special foods and baby formula!
Rather than giving us these things, a money donation is preferred because it allows us to locally buy what we need.
Money also helps us pay the rent and utilities (electric, phone, garbage pickup, etc.). And, money is necessary to pay the staff.
We don’t sell anything. We rely on donations of money to operate. It costs us between $15,000 and $20,000 per month to operate – and that is low because we’ve trimmed operations to a minimum since donations after Hurricane Katrina have dwindled.
In addition, we need to buy our own property and build hurricane-proof shelters for our cats. We need to establish our own adoption centers in urban areas. We need to hire our own veterinarians and hire more people. We need a second vehicle. We need to pay off debt. We need to increase the size of our mailing list.
We need to raise $6-10 million to do these things.
It’s not just for our existing cats but for the 100's more that we can take off death row.
